The Scottish Hospitals Survey was carried out in 1989-91. This gazetteer comprises a reasonably comprehensive list of medical hospitals, poorhouses and mental hospitals established from the late seventeenth century up to the Second World War, and hospitals that were transferred to the National Health Service in 1948 or built under the NHS subsequently. It is arranged by area, and alphabetically by hospital name within each area. I have slowly been updating the entries, and welcome any comments, whether it is adding information or letting me know if I have made any errors. I also welcome any additional images.
