The earliest of the three hospitals in Westbury, opened by 1901 on the corner of Haynes and Westbourne Road. It closed and was converted into three dwellings in the 1920s-30s when the new hospital was built further north along Haynes Road.

WINSLEY

Winsley Sanatorium (Winsley Chest Hospital; Royal Victoria Memorial Sanatorium; now Avon Park) ST 792 609 BF 100580 part demolished

The first building of the sanatorium was constructed in 1903-5. The architects were the local firm of Thomas Ball Silcock jr and Samuel Sebastian Reay.

The hospital closed in 1982, and the site was later developed as Avonpark retirement village, retaining some of the former hospital buildings. [Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre have a good set of records of the hospital. A history of the hospital was published in 1992 written by John Willet, a former hospital administrator, Hospital Diary, The History of Winsley Chest Hospital.]
